Summer Weather? | Bellingham Photographer
We haven't had much luck when it comes to the weather this year. In fact, it has pretty much felt like autumn since last autumn. The other day was no exception, but I decided to venture out in the wind and cold anyway. Sure, I got wet from the rain, my hair looked like I had stood in a wind tunnel for 10 minutes, and my throat ached from the cold, but I still had fun.

A Heron Day | Bellingham Photographer
I don't know why, but lately I've been photographing a lot of heron. It seems that wherever I go, there seems to be a little cluster of them - waiting for me to photograph them. They are still extremely cautious and don't hesitate to fly away when I get too close, but some let me get close enough to snap a solid photograph.

Blue Heron and His Dinner | Bellingham Photographer
I had friends visiting from London and yesterday they were starting their journey back home, so I decided to take them on one last walk in the wind and rain before they left. It was pouring down rain, and we were drenched by the end of the walk but it was certainly worth it - after catching this guy in the water.
I have never managed to get so close to a heron. They are super skittish birds, but I believe this guy was more interested in finding a good place to stash his most recent kills (see what is hanging from the end of his beak). I love this photograph because of the color and clarity. I was able to catch the rain drops on the water and when the photograph is larger, you can see water droplets dripping from the sea weed and dinner's tail.

The River | Bellingham Photographer
In what seems like the last day of sunshine around here, I spent the morning with a friend - just driving around and taking photographs. These are two of the photographs I took... The river was low, so we decided to venture out on the rocky river bed - close to the water - and see what photographs we could take.
Frustrated with not being able to get the sort of photograph I wanted, I walked shin-deep into the river (yes, I still had my Sketchers on) and took the first photo. The water was cold, and I didn't dare venure any further because the rocks were slippery and I knew I would take a tumble and possibly damage my camera. The second photograph was taken with me getting as low as possible without soaking every inch of me in river water. It's always good to remember angles count!
